The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD), established in 1822, is the oldest Royal Charter university in England and Wales after Oxford and Cambridge. The Prince of Wales, the heir to the British throne, serves as the university's royal patron. Since its founding, UWTSD has undergone several mergers and reorganizations, including the incorporation of the former University of Wales, Lampeter (established in 1822), Trinity College Carmarthen (established in 1848), Swansea Metropolitan University (established in 1853), and eventually the entire University of Wales.
UWTSD currently operates across five major campuses: Lampeter, Carmarthen, Swansea, London, and Birmingham, and also houses the Wales Academy of Voice and Dramatic Arts in Cardiff city center. Additionally, UWTSD Group includes Coleg Sir Gâr in Carmarthenshire and Coleg Ceredigion.
The university is composed of eight faculties: the Institute of Management and Health, Swansea College of Art, Wales Institute of Science and Art, Institute of Education and Humanities, Blue Light Academy, Wales Institute of Work-Based Learning and Applied Research, Wales Academy of Voice and Dramatic Arts, and the Confucius Institute. UWTSD is a comprehensive institution, offering programs in various fields including arts, engineering, business, humanities, and education, with undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees in these disciplines. It has over 27,000 students.
UWTSD is known for its distinctive academic offerings and enjoys an international reputation in fields such as computing, automotive engineering, art and design, business studies, and archaeology. The university has been highly recognized by major UK institutions, such as The Times, Complete University Guide, The Guardian, and the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), for its education quality, academic standards, and student satisfaction.
